Annual Al-Quds Day Rally
Friday, September 18, 2009 @ 12:30pm
at Sheridan Circle (Massachusetts Ave & 23rd St. NW)

International Day of Al-Quds is an annual event opposing Israel’s control of Jerusalem, (Al-Quds in Arabic: القـُدْس). Demonstrations are held on this day in most Muslim and Arab countries and by Muslim and non-Muslim communities around the world, including the United States. It is held each year on the last Friday of Ramadan. Jerusalem Day is not an Islamic religious holiday but a political event open to both Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

SISTERS, Scholarship Fund Needs Your Help

And say, My Lord! Increase my knowledge.

Qur’an 20:114
Education is an important element of Islam and SISTERS wants to help other sisters to fulfull their educational goals. Please help us to help your daughter, sister or mother pay for college.

This year will be the fouth year that SISTERS will award $1000 scholarships to college bound sisters in the DC Metro area. We currently offer two scholarships; one for a high school senior and one for a sister already enrolled in college, but we would like to increase it to at least three.

Every year we receive requests for scholarship money for sisters who for a variety of reasons don't match our criteria. Either they are in graduate school or they are older, non traditional students who have returned to school after raising their children. Our goal is to add at least one scholarship this year and with your help we know this can happen.

This year we would like to add a scholarship for the non traditional sister, one who is over 22 years of age and has returned to college after having her education interrupted. Please consider making a small donation to help make this happen. If everyone reading this email would give just $5, we could meet our goal and perhaps even increase our award amouts. This is one of the best forms of sadaqa.

You can go to: www.sistersinsolidarity.com and using paypal, make a contibution online or mail a check to SISTERS to:
