MAS Freedom & ANSWER Coalition Sponsored June 6 'Gaza Solidarity Day' Events Relocated to Israeli Embassy, 3514 International Drive N.W., Washington, DC

Rally and March on Washington Begin at 12 Noon on Saturday, June 6, 2009
MASNET

WASHINGTON, DC (MASNET) June 1, 2009 - MAS Freedom (MASF), as the civic and human rights advocacy entity of the Muslim American Society (MAS) and America's largest grassroots organization, the ANSWER Coalition, and coalition partners announce that the location of this Saturday's June 6 Gaza Solidarity Day Rally and March (beginning at 12 Noon) has been moved from Freedom Plaza to the Israeli Embassy, located at 3514 International Dr., N.W. Washington, DC. The Embassy is located at the intersection of Van Ness St. and Reno Rd., 1 block from Connecticut Ave., N.W. (also accessible via metro by exiting the Van Ness-UDC stop on the Red Line).

Why the change of venue?

1. June 6th is the 42nd anniversary of the seizure of Gaza and other Arab land by the Israeli state.

2. While in Washington, D.C. for meetings, the Israeli government's newly elected Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, vowed on Sunday, May 31, 2009, that there would be 'no let-up in Israel's blockade of Gaza', further making it clear that his government intends to expand the Israeli settlements throughout the West Bank.

3. On June 6th, worldwide attention will be focused on the efforts of international activists who will be leading humanitarian convoys into Gaza with humanitarian relief.

4. In defiance of the worldwide voices demanding an immediate end to the siege of Gaza, the Israeli government is forcing the people of Gaza into perpetual homelessness following the aerial destruction of their homes and neighborhoods in the war of aggression that was launched on December 27, 2008. The civilian population of Gaza is being deliberately deprived of food, medicine, building supplies and energy resources - all things necessary to sustain life.

"It is not only important that the violence ends, but the siege of Gaza must be lifted as well. This medieval-like siege, which has denied the people of Gaza food, medicine, clean drinking water, and basic necessities of life, is killing and wounding countless innocent civilians, including women and children," stated MAS Freedom Executive Director, Mahdi Bray, one of the event's principal organizer's.

Co-sponsors include American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), National Council of Arab Americans (NCAA), and others.
