To Allah We Return - Br. Mohammad El Serwy

ارْجِعِي إِلَى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً


Our brother Mohammad El Serwy passed away earlier this afternoon, Wed 5/13/09. We ask Allah (SWT) to grant him mercy, forgiveness and compassion to to raise him at the highest ranks of jannah. Please make duaa for him.

Inshaa Allah his janazah will be at Dar Al-Taqwa on Friday after jummah prayer. Prayer khutbah starts at 1:30pm. Burial inshaa Allah will be at Taqwa Gardens, at the Columbia Memorial Park on Route 108.

Temp Position : Summer Camp Director, Summer 2009

Summer camp director is needed to run a 6-8 week camp for youth ages 7 - 17. Director must have strong understanding of Quran and Sunnah, be very outgoing and able to interact with youth, providing coaching, developing motivating programs, supervising programs, accompanying youth and their coaches on trips. Must have good business acumen, curriculum development/actvitiy development knowledge and skills, leadership abilities, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Part time Outreach and Community Affairs Coordinator

Position: Part time Outreach and Community Affairs Coordinator

Work Hrs: 4 – 8 per week, depending on work load

Compensation: $10 - $15 per hr, depending on experience and education

Reporting Structure: Reports to Shura Community Affairs (public relations) officer and Imam

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Organize dawa material in storage areas, during events, and at Masjid entrance.
  2. Assist dawa committee in ordering dawa material including and not limited to books, brochures, new Muslim packages, rugs, media and other educational literature.
  3. Communicate with bookstores, publishers, embassies, dawa organizations and other entities to order dawa collateral
  4. Receive shipments of dawa literature and compare to orders placed, track inventory levels and restock as needed.
  5. Create and maintain a database of all dawa material and their status.
  6. Suggest new titles to the DAT library and HC County public library system
  7. Correspond with schools, religious entities, medical facilities, county agencies, detention centers, police and media to secure appointments for the Imam and DAT PR, setup dates for dawa programs and events.
  8. Setup weekly informational table on Fridays before jumma by 30 minutes to share with community information on all DAT activities (social, educational, prayers, youth, news updates, membership, etc…)
  9. Setup a weekly dawa information center on Saturdays around thuhr time for general public to drop by for questions, literature pickup, or scheduling a meeting with Imam or dawa committee
  10. Organize and arrange Masjid facility for open houses and other dawa events, by placing literature, stands, media and other logistical preparations.
  11. Design and develop flyers for all DAT events for both print and electronic promotion
  12. Maintain database of all DAT contacts (Islamic centers, religious organizations, country agencies, guest speakers, detention centers, etc…)
  13. Maintain records of minutes for all Imam meetings with other organizations (Imam’s monthly meetings, etc..)
  14. Maintain database for services provided in the area of dawa such as Taqwa Transitions, Open Houses,
  15. Maintain and organize correspondence for dawa and community affairs meetings with external entities (police, detention centers, hospital, colleges, schools, religious organizations)
  16. Record (video and audio) public events such as jumma prayer, open house programs, congregational visits to DAT, off-site visits
  17. Design and maintain DAT brochures such as (dawa brochure, zakat brochure, DAT general brochure, etc…)
  18. Assist PR officer with announcements, emails, website and other promotional and advertising vehicles.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma, 1-2 yrs of college a plus.
  2. Strong analytical abilities and the ability to perform basic business calculations
  3. Ability to read, complete and understand purchase orders.
  4. Ability to use the Internet, and high tech gadgets
  5. Ability to negotiate with suppliers prices for dawa and other supplies
  6. Ability to design flyers and brochures using desktop applications such as Power Point, MS Publisher, Adobe
  7. Knowledge of video recording and editing
  8. Ability to organize files
  9. Basic knowledge of event planning
  10. Ability to use database applications, spreadsheets, and word processors
  11. Ability to conduct phone calls, schedule appointments and prepare meeting minutes
  12. Good understanding of the Quran and Sunnah
  13. Fluent English and basic Arabic

Skills Needed

- Excellent computer skills

- Excellent customer care skills

- Excellent interpersonal skills

- Excellent communications skills (English) and reasonable knowledge of Arabic

- Strong analytical and organizational skills

This is a very demanding and challenging position and requires a very active individual with the ability handle multiple tasks and high levels of organization, commitment and discipline.

Special appreciation goes to all the volunteers who came to DAT and Long Reach school to help with arrangements and planning, as well as the various committees (fundraising, events, sisters, public relations, facilities, schools and other program at DAT) whom all where key in the success of this program starting from the design of the flyer, to the serving of the food.

Swine Flu Virus Discussion, Sunday May 3rd, 2009
